Opening reception: May 15 (FRI) 2015, 18:00 – 21:00
Frantic Gallery is honored to present “Corpus Reassembled.”, a solo show of Atsushi Koyama and his original experiments on the borderline of art and science. While basing his work on completed educations in both art and mathematics fields Koyama reveals the new perspective on the aesthetics of machine, possible co-existence of organic and mechanic, corporeal and automatic as well as unprecedented approaches to the creation of oil painting itself.
The exhibition will consist of four parts and will show the latest developments of Koyama’s artistic thinking: 1.oil on canvas paintings, 2. animation videos which were made on the basis of the paintings and in collaboration with Abandoned Audio Record Label (Berlin) and Dj/Producers Pachyderme (Argentina) and Aepiel (UK), 3. drawings that show the process of studies referring both to the historical perspective (DaVinci drawings for instance) as well as contemporary engineering (jet engines and internal combustion engines) and finally 4. Koyama’s library consisted of referential materials on both human body and machine structures.
“Corpus Reassembled.” let both Machine and Human Bodies unfold and reorganize itself on the black backgrounds of Koyama’s canvases transpassing different media and reaching the dimension where machines have the same rights for beauty and sublime as human body in ours.
